Chicago Homegrrrl Takes Top Chef Title
And it's about f'ing time!!! What season are we on now and how many female contestants have we had thus far? I found myself completely irritated earlier this season when certain foodie cognoscenti anointed Dale and Richard as the only contenders that mattered. Whatevs, it's TV and how can you know unless you've been tasting every dish along the way?! OK. Now for the serious stuff. I've been holding my tongue all season long but now I will say what has to be said; male or female, if you rawk a faux-hawk, you automatically lose in more ways than one.
Not only did our Chicago homegrrl Stephanie not have a faux-hawk, she performed consistently all season long and never showed any sign of being the least bit stressed when she found herself on the chopping block. Then she had the cojones to push Eric Ripert - yes, the one and only God of Le Bernadin - around the kitchen on the finale tonight. Was it worth the wait? I'll reserve judgement until we see what happens next with her future pursuits. Don't let us down Stephanie! Congratulations chica. Viva Puerto Rico but move to New York like everyone else!
P.S. A special shout out from GG to my favorite chef of all - Dan Barber of Blue Hill making a very special guest appearance tonight. I think this means the word is officially out and I'll never be able to get a reservation ever again.
